Polymicro FBPI Optical Fibre Delivers Industry-First Panoramic Spectrograph and Sensor Analysis
Polymicro Technologies, a subsidiary of Molex Incorporated, has successfully developed a broad spectrum optical fibre with a low -OH pure silica core that demonstrates significantly reduced content of UV defects and other UV absorption centres. Polymicro's proprietary FBPI fibre takes advantage of the benefits and mitigates the limitations of standard optical fibres. Featuring improved transmission properties over a much wider spectral range, the silica-based, broadband FBPI fibre is available in a range of densities and can be produced in core diameters from 50-600 μm.
Assembling and Processing Sapphire Fibres

Belden Inc supplied optical communications technology from its Hirschmann brand for Herrenknecht tunnel boring machines used to construct the Katzenberg rail tunnel in southern Germany. FCI has developed a CXP-to-CXP 12X connection option to complement its line of XLerateT -12X Series active optical cable assemblies. New Avago Technologies Optical Modules Bridge Compatibility Gap in Data Centers to Increase Bandwidth
Avago Technologies today announced fiber optic module solutions that enable more efficient switching and greater bandwidth in data centers. The new pluggable, parallel optical QSFP+ eSR4 transceiver is the first module that can address both 40 Gigabit (40G) and 10 Gigabit (10G) Ethernet applications with a verified link distance of 400 meters. This gives data center operators the flexibility to reuse the current 10G wired infrastructure when upgrading to 40G, providing a major cost savings. The Avago QSFP+ eSR4 modules integrate four 10G lanes in each direction to increase bandwidth within a line card by more than three times while using 50 percent less power than that of a one-lane SFP+ module.

AFL Launches OFI-400HP for High Power Optical Networks
AFL is introducing the NOYES OFI-400HP, an Optical Fiber Identifier designed to simplify installation, maintenance, rerouting or restoration tasks in high power optical networks. The OFI-400HP includes traffic and tone detection and low insertion loss that permits technicians to positively identify fibers without disrupting services. It also incorporates an optical power meter designed for use where power levels up to +33 dBm are present. Whenever power levels above +23 dBm are detected, the OFI-400HP warns users of the potential eye hazard and fiber damage associated with disconnecting, cutting or breaking the optical circuit.
